The Hawks got out to a solid start; while the first period was mostly uneventful, they were the better team during it. Rasmussen had a great goal and then that was it. Then it looked like they never got the memo that the second period had started. Crawford played a puck poorly and it led to Buffalo tying the game. The defense was mostly good by the Hawks, and it needed to be, otherwise the lack of offense would have really hurt. The third was a lot of back-and-forth action with neither team really getting many good looks. Crawford lost the puck and it led to a Buffalo goal. Later, during a 5-on-3, Panarin made a brilliant pass to Kane, who had an open net and tied the game. Overtime was never 3-on-3, as the Hawks had an extra man from the Franson penalty in regulation and the whistle to stop play, which would have started 3-on-3, was a penalty on Shaw, so then Buffalo had an extra man. The next whistle was the end of the OT period. Crawford and Kane came up big in the shootout and got the Hawks the extra point.
My picks for 3 stars:
★★★ Dennis Rasmussen, C, CHI (1 G)
★★ Patrick Kane, RW, CHI (1 G (GTG))
★ Artemi Panarin, LW, CHI (1 A)
