UA-59049186-1 Blackhawks 4, Canadiens 2 - Good if it Goes

Blackhawks 4, Canadiens 2

Box score (Yahoo)

Early on, this game resembled Sunday’s tilt with the Minnesota Wild where the opposition would get the better of the action, though the Blackhawks would lead. While the Hawks didn’t chase Carey Price with their first two shots as they did Devan Dubnyk, they did take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, the result of a Patrick Kane goal set up by Artem Anisimov. The action would even out in the second period, though only the Hawks would find the back of the net. After a 2-on-1 was broken up, Johnny Oduya picked up the puck and scored from nearly 60 feet out to make it 2-0. The Hawks would push the lead to 3-0 47 seconds into the third when Nick Schmaltz set up Artemi Panarin. After that, the Canadiens put some pressure on and got a pair later in the period. First it was Paul Byron, then Shea Weber to pull the Canadiens within one with 3:28 to play in regulation. The Canadiens would have some nice chances, but the Hawks’ defense stiffened and Jonathan Toews added an empty netter to put the game away.

A few things

  • Artem Anisimov went down with a scary-looking injury in the first where he was unable to put weight on his left leg as he left the ice. Fortunately, Joel Quenneville said after the game that it’s not serious and that Anisimov is day-to-day.
  • Corey Crawford had another excellent outing. Another game or two like this and I’ll be ready to declare Elite Crow back.

My picks for 3 stars

★★★ Johnny Oduya, D, CHI (1 G)

★★ Corey Crawford, G, CHI (40 SV, 2 GA)

★ Patrick Kane, RW, CHI (1 G, 2 A)
