Blackhawks 4, Coyotes 3
- Updated: February 3, 2017
The Blackhawks got off to a great start and took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission after goals from Patrick Kane, Ryan Hartman, and Marian Hossa. Then a familiar theme – the lousy second period – reared its ugly head. Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored 1:36 in on a 5-on-3 power play that occurred because of a pair of bad penalties. Artemi Panarin got the goal back on a one-timer from his spot 5:24 in. Later in the period, Arizona scored twice in under a minute-and-a-half to cut the lead to one. The Coyotes would get some good looks in the third, but luckily, the Hawks were able to preserve the one-goal lead and snap their three-game losing streak.
A few things
- Vinnie Hinostroza was a healthy scratch. I have no idea why. He didn’t do anything particularly bad against the Sharks and taking someone with his skill out of a struggling lineup isn’t a move I would make.
- The Hawks took way too many bad penalties in this one, including three delay of game penalties in the second.
My picks for 3 stars
★★★ Christian Dvorak, C, ARI (1 G, 1 A)
★★ Patrick Kane, RW, CHI (1 G, 1 A)
★ Artemi Panarin, LW, CHI (1 G (GWG), 1 A)
