Blackhawks 5, Stars 3
- Updated: February 5, 2017
While the shots on goal in the first may have been 11-10 Blackhawks, it was the Stars who appeared to be getting the better of the action early on. Some solid play from both netminders produced a scoreless opening twenty. Eight seconds into the second, Radek Faksa got the Stars onto the board from a tough angle. It was a goal that Corey Crawford absolutely can’t let in. The Hawks would get the next two, though. First, Ryan Hartman scored off a great pass from Tanner Kero 6:20 into the second. Then, 2:14 later, Gustav Forsling scored his second of the season. The the Stars got the next two. Forty seconds into the third, Jamie Benn scored to tie the game. 8:44 later, Tyler Seguin gave Dallas the lead. That lead would last only 35 seconds, though, as Patrick Kane would beat Kari Lehtonen on a drive to the net. The Hawks would take the lead just under six minutes later when Trevor van Riemsdyk cleaned up the rebound of an Artem Anisimov drive. Jonathan Toews would add an empty-netter, a pure “screw you” goal with under a second on the clock after the Hawks played some keep away while on a power play with Lehtonen on the bench.
A few things
- It appears as though Crawford’s back to doing the thing where he makes multiple ten-bell saves then has massive brainfarts on what should be simple plays.
- Vinnie Hinostroza was a healthy scratch again. I have no idea why, but it worked.
My picks for 3 stars
★★★ Patrick Kane, RW, CHI (1 G)
★★ Ryan Hartman, W, CHI (1 G)
★ Jordin Tootoo, W, CHI (Smashed Antoine Roussel‘s face)
