The Hawks’ first goal came on a Keith redirect of a great pass by Kane. Panarin lit the lamp later in the period to make it 2-0 Chicago. Then the Hawks seemed to kind of take their foot off the gas and the Oilers battles back in it. The Hawks reclaimed the lead on a play by Shaw where he whiffed on a shot, Nilsson bit and then Shaw scored as he was falling down. Again, the Hawks didn’t play with the necessary vigor afterward and the Oilers tied the game and forced overtime, where Hossa would finally score on a breakaway and give the Hawks the extra point.
The Hawks looked a little sluggish in this one. For much of the game, it seemed like a it was a combination of great play from Crawford and the fact that the game was against Edmonton that was why the Hawks were in it. And once Crawford had a couple moments where he wasn’t so great, things looked kind of sketchy. Luckily, the Hawks were able to pull out the win, though they’ll need better efforts the rest of the trip.
My picks for 3 stars:
★★★ Leon Draisaitl, C, EDM (1 G)
★★ Patrick Kane, RW, CHI (2 A)
★ Artemi Panarin, LW, CHI (1 G, 2 A)
