Blackhawks 4, Sabres 3 – Recap

The Hawks spent Friday night in Patrick Kane’s hometown of Buffalo, taking on the Sabres. The Hawks dominated the first period, getting plenty of chances while keeping Buffalo from really getting anything going. The Hawks struck first on a goal by Duncan Keith 2:16 into the game. They would expand the lead 6:20 later when Patrick Sharp got a shot through Anders Lindback. The Sabres would get a chance to cut into the Hawks’ lead when Marcus Kruger was sent off for tripping Nicolas Deslauriers 13:26 into the period. The Hawks would be able to kill off the penalty. Right at the end of the period, Johan Larsson was sent off for boarding Antoine Vermette, giving the Hawks a full power play to start the second period. After twenty, the Hawks led 2-0.

The Hawks would be unable to score on their power play to start the second period and the Sabres would step up their play. The Hawks would get another power play 6:51 into the period after a delay of game call against Buffalo. The Hawks would get a couple chances, but no goals on the man advantage. The Sabres would cut the Hawks’ lead to one on a goal by Marcus Foligno 13:10 into the period. Just over a minute later, the Sabres would get a chance to tie the game on a power play after Andrew Shaw was sent off for tripping Brian Gionta. The Hawks would be able to kill off the penalty. With two-and-a-half minutes remaining in the second, Nikita Zadorov slashed Johnny Oduya, and the Hawks went to the power play. The Hawks would get a couple chances, but no goals. Neither team would score in the finaly thirty second of the period, and after two periods, the Hawks led 2-1.

The Hawks would go to the penalty kill 4:21 into the third after Kimmo Timonen was sent off for tripping, and the Sabres would tie the game on the power play. The goal came from Larsson 5:29 into the period. We would see 4-on-4 hockey 11:14 into the period when Zach Bogosian was sent off for cross-checking Kris Versteeg and Versteeg was sent off for retaliating with a slash. The Sabres would take their first lead of the night on Foligno’s second goal of the night 12:42 into the third. After pulling Scott Darling in favor of the extra attacker, the Hawks would tie the game with 1:43 left on a goal by Jonathan Toews. About 48 seconds later, Toews scored again to give the Hawks the lead. This would be the game-winner, and the Hawks would come away with a 4-3 victory.
