Blackhawks 5, Sabres 1
- Updated: February 19, 2017
Like last night, the Blackhawks played a great game and controlled the action throughout. Unlike last night, they were able to find the back of the net more than once. Ryan Hartman got the scoring started for the Hawks in the middle of the first. With five-and-a-half seconds to play in the period, the Sabres tied the game on a goal from Evander Kane after a sequence where the Hawks were unable to clear their zone and their defense broke down. After that, it was all Hawks. Marian Hossa and Jonathan Toews lit the lamp in the second. Artem Anisimov and Patrick Kane did so in the third.
A few things
- Vinnie Hinostroza was called up from Rockford, so I have no idea what the Hawks have in mind for the deadline. This feels a bit like last year, where the Hawks could use both a scorer and defensive depth. Having Brian Campbell around this year is a big upgrade and Trevor van Riemsdyk has improved, and on offense, Ryan Hartman has played very well, so the situation isn’t quite as rough as it was a year ago, but I still have questions about how this team would fare in the playoffs.
My picks for 3 stars
★★★ Scott Darling, G, CHI (25 SV, 1 GA)
★★ Marian Hossa, RW, CHI (1 G (GWG))
★ Patrick Kane, RW, CHI (1 G, 1 A)
