UA-59049186-1 Blackhawks 5, Wild 3 - Good if it Goes

Blackhawks 5, Wild 3

Box score (Yahoo)

The Blackhawks played another very good hockey game and extended their road winning streak with a 5-3 win over the division leading-Wild. After a scoreless first, Jonathan Toews found the back of the net just under a minute into the second to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. The Wild would tie the game 4:20 into the period on a goal from Mikael Granlund, but Richard Panik would answer 41 seconds later. The Hawks would continue to get the better of the action in the period, but no more goals would be scored. Nick Schmaltz scored just over thirty seconds into the third to push the lead to two. The Wild would pick up their play as the period went on and push the Hawks back on their heels a bit, but the Hawks’ top line continued to roll. After a Zach Parise goal, Schmaltz made a beautiful pass to Tazer for his second of the night to push the lead back to two. Granlund would cut the lead to one again, but the Wild would be unable to find the equalizer. Meanwhile, Tazer added an empty netter to complete the hat trick.

A few things

  • In the Times Tuesday, Mark Lazerus suggested the Hawks could leave Marcus Kruger unprotected in the upcoming expansion draft. That may not be a bad idea if Trevor van Riemsdyk continues playing good hockey. Guys like Kruger are nice to have, but the Hawks have more forward depth than defensive depth.

My picks for 3 stars

★★★ Richard Panik, W, CHI (1 G, 1 A)

★★ Nick Schmaltz, F, CHI (1 G, 2 A)

★ Jonathan Toews, C, CHI (3 G (GWG), 2 A)
