Blackhawks 6, Avalanche 3
- Updated: March 20, 2017
For whatever reason, things don’t seem to go smoothly for the Blackhawks when they meet the Avalanche. After Patrick Kane gave the team a 1-0 lead, the Avalanche responded with a pair and added another one in the second period. The Hawks cut the lead to one 10:17 into the third on a re-direct from Jonathan Toews that was challenged and sure looked offside as Richard Panik appeared to enter the zone with the puck before Toews could tag up. However, it was ruled that Panik didn’t clearly touch the puck until Toews tagged, so the goal stood. I felt pretty dumb for missing the “actually touched the puck” part of it on review, but so did Pat Foley end Eddie Olczyk, so it’s all good. Anyway, 17 seconds later, Richard Panik scored to tie the game. 17 seconds after that, Artemi Panarin gave the Hawks the lead. Tazer would push the lead to two about two-and-a-half minutes later and Marcus Kruger would add an empty netter with 1.6 on the clock to cap off a big third and a Blackhawks win.
A few things
- Marian Hossa and Johnny Oduya both sat for this one. Hossa was still not back from a lower body injury, which Oduya was being rested.
- Scott Darling wasn’t as sharp as he’s been recently, but made some big saves in the second to keep the Hawks in it.
My picks for 3 stars
★★★ Patrick Kane, RW, CHI (1 G, 1 A)
★★ Artemi Panarin, LW, CHI (1 G (GWG), 1 A)
★ Jonathan Toews, C, CHI (2 G)
