UA-59049186-1 Canucks 5, Blackhawks 4 (OT) - Good if it Goes

Canucks 5, Blackhawks 4 (OT)

Box score (Yahoo)

The Blackhawks out-shot the Canucks and got the better of the action all game, but the Canucks made the most of their chances. Some nice plays by Vancouver, coupled with defensive lapses by the Hawks and a less-than-spectacular outing from Corey Crawford led to the Hawks finding themselves down 4-1 in the third. Then Marian Hossa scored. Then Richard Panik scored. Then we thought John Hayden scored, but the play was called offside. Then Ryan Hartman scored and there was no doubt about that one. Nobody broke the tie in regulation, so we went to overtime, where a ridiculous goalie interference call against Jonathan Toews gave the Canucks a power play that they cashed on, though it looked like Scott Darling may have gotten bumped. The play was reviewed and upheld.

A few things

  • The Hawks can’t keep having games like this where they fall behind by multiple goals in the third. They’re finding ways to come back, which is nice to see, but you can’t count on being able to do that all the time. The team seems to be cooling off just a bit, though I still like their chances a lot going into the postseason.

My picks for 3 stars

★★★ Ryan Hartman, W, CHI (2 G)

★★ Marian Hossa, RW, CHI (1 G, 1 A)

Brandon Sutter, C, VAN (2 G)
