The Blackhawks needed a game like this after their last few performances. The team absolutely dominated this one from the start. The power play was rolling, scoring four goals, with Svedberg’s coming just seconds after a power play ended. After that goal, the Leafs kind of woke up a bit. I’m not sure why they waited until they were down seven goals halfway through the third to start actually playing, but they got a couple goals of their own late, so moral victory for them, I guess? Even with those two goals, Darling was phenomenal, recording 35 saves, including the best one by any Hawks goalie since, well, Darling in game one of the playoffs against Nashville, where he went post-to-post.
Marian Hossa looks to be out two weeks or so with a leg injury. To fill his spot, the Hawks called up Vinnie Hinostroza from Rockford. I was hoping we’d see Dano, and if it wasn’t going to be him, I was surprised it wasn’t Hartman, but Hinostroza was fine in this one, and should be going forward as well.
My picks for 3 stars:
★★★ Andrew Shaw, F, CHI (1 G, 2 A)
★★ Patrick Kane, RW, CHI (1 G, 3 A)
★ Scott Darling, G, CHI (35 SV, 2 GA)
