Blackhawks Trade Trevor Daley to Pittsburgh for Rob Scuderi
- Updated: December 15, 2015
Tonight, the Hawks traded defenseman Trevor Daley to Pittsburgh for defenseman Rob Scuderi. The Penguins will pick up one-third of Scuderi’s $3.375M cap hit, so the Hawks save just over $1 million in cap space with the move. I’m a big fan of this deal. Daley’s a nice player, but just wasn’t a great fit with the Hawks. He’s an offensive defenseman and Q prefers his blueliners to be more “stay-at-home.” At this point, the Hawks’ top 4 is Keith, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson, and TvR. This saves the Hawks $1.05M on a 5th/6th defenseman. Kruger, Rasmussen, and Shaw are RFAs this year and Panarin, Turbo, and Dano are RFAs next year. Cap space is gonna be important. At 36, Scuderi’s best days are behind him, but can still be a solid 5th/6th defenseman. They’ve got Gustaffson in Rockford (RFA next year, by the way. Again, cap space = important.) who I think can be awfully good, so I’m not upset about trading a 32-year-old for a 36-year-old here.
