Flames 4, Blackhawks 3 (OT)
- Updated: December 31, 2017
Jeff Glass’s return home to Calgary looked like it was going to turn into a nightmare as the Blackhawks fell behind 3-0. Then they got one on a shot from Jordan Oesterle just after a power play ended. Then they got another, this one from Jonathan Toews. Then, late in the third, with the net empty, the Hawks tied the game when Toews won a face-off and got the puck to Brandon Saad, who banked it in off a Calgary player. Meanwhile, Jeff Glass stood strong and the Hawks picked up their play around him. Overtime did not go so well. Mark Giordano scored on a shot that Glass absolutely should’ve stopped and he knew it. Still, the Hawks took 3 of 4 possible points playing their 4th-string goalie. They’ve still got work to do to get where they need to be, but the last two games were strong efforts.
My picks for 3 stars
★★★ Jonathan Toews, C, CHI (1 G, 1 A)
★★ Matthew Tkachuk, LW, CGY (2 G)
★ Mark Giordano, D, CGY (1 G (GWG), 1 A)
