Rangers 1, Blackhawks 0 (OT)
- Updated: December 9, 2016
The Blackhawks controlled the action early on as the Rangers seemed to be feeling the effects of playing a night ago. Unfortunately for the Hawks, they were unable to take advantage and the first period ended 0-0. As did the second. And the third. The Rangers would find their legs after the first and ended up out-shooting the Hawks, but the score remained tied at zeros regardless. The goaltenders were big parts of this as Scott Darling and former Blackhawk Antti Raanta stood on their respective heads. Unfortunately, one had to take the loss, and unfortunately for the Hawks, it was Darling. Fifty-five seconds into OT, Nick Holden came onto the ice for a change and nobody picked him up. He got the puck and beat Darling to give the Rangers the extra point.
A few things
- The Hawks were without both Jonathan Toews and Brent Seabook. Fortunately, the penalty killing remained fine.
- It’s time to split up Patrick Kane and Artemi Panarin, at least until Jonathan Toews is back. I’d put Tyler Motte with Kane and Artem Anisimov and try Panarin with Vinnie Hinostroza and somebody. I think Panik and then the third line could be Ryan Hartman – Marcus Kruger – Marian Hossa.
My picks for 3 stars
★★★ Nick Holden, D, NYR (1 G (GWG))
★★ Scott Darling, G, CHI (36 SV, 1 GA)
★ Antti Raanta, G, NYR (26 SV, SO)
