Record Broken, Then Streak Broken – Your Weekly Blackhawks Recap

(Week of 1/17 – 1/23)

Hawks – Canadiens Recap

Hawks – Predators Recap

Hawks – Lightning Recap

Hawks – Panthers Recap

The Hawks went 2-2 on the week, defeating the Canadiens at home and the Predators on the road to set the franchise record for longest winning streak, then lost on the road to the Lightning and Panthers on consecutive nights.

Notes

Forwards: The Hawks dealt Ryan Garbutt to the Ducks for Jiri Sekac. Garbutt was an okay bottom 6 six guy, but that’s it. Sekac is at least worth a look. There’s plenty of talent in Rockford, so the worst-case scenario seems to be Sekac doesn’t pan out, is sent down, doesn’t have to clear waivers to be sent down, which Garbutt would have had to do, and someone from Rockford comes up. As of the writing of this, the Hawks have called up Mark McNeill. If they were to send Sekac down, my guess is that it would be Ryan Hartman getting called up.

The top two lines for the Hawks continued to produce, the bottom two were just okay. The third line seems to have cooled off a bit, though Turbo’s play has been encouraging.

Defensemen: The Hawks dressed seven of them against the Lightning after the aforementioned Garbutt trade, coupled with Richard Panik oversleeping and missing practice. Didn’t o so well. Carry 21 skaters from now on, Q. The defensive unit played well in every game but the one against the Panthers – that was a bad outing. Like, really bad.

Goalies: Crawford had a good week, Darling had a rough outing against Florida. It wasn’t all his fault, though, as the defense hung him out to dry a few times, but still, he’s got to be better than he was.

Blackhawks 3 stars of the week:

★★★ Artemi Panarin, LW (3 A)

★★ Jonathan Toews, C (2 G (1 GWG))

★ Patrick Kane, RW (2 G, 3 A)
