Red Wings 4, Blackhawks 2
- Updated: March 10, 2017
The Blackhawks struck first on a goal by Artemi Panarin 4:23 into the first and then spent much of the rest of the game on their heels. Xavier Ouellet scored just under sixteen-and-a-half minutes into the period and Andreas Athanasiou scored with eight seconds left. After that, the Hawks were in full-on chase mode. Tomas Tatar pushed the lead to two later on in the second, but Trevor van Riemsdyk cut it to one with less than a minute to play. The Hawks were unable to carry any momentum into the third, though. The Red Wings continued to play good defense in fron of Jimmy Howard, making his first start in nearly three months. Tatar would add an insurance goal with just under four-and-a-half to play.
A few things
- Johnny Oduya and Niklas Hjalmarsson were scratches in this one as a precautionary measure with the Hawks having played last night and playing again on Sunday. That game against the Wild is at 11:30 A.M. the day they set the clocks forward. Good scheduling, NHL.
My picks for 3 stars
★★★ Artemi Panarin, LW, CHI (1 G)
★★ Gustav Nyquist, RW, DET (3 A)
★ Tomas Tatar, LW, DET (2 G (GWG), 1 A)
