Well, it’s gut check time now. The Blackhawks have had their chances, they outshot the Blues again in this one, but they’re not making the most of those opportunities, although Brian Elliott has had a lot to do with that. Patrick Kane needs to start making plays. He had more than a couple blunders in this one that almost cost the Hawks. Some of that, I think, is him trying to do too much. On the flip side, Teräväinen had a pretty nice game and was playing more aggressively. Michal Rozsival had another clunker. TvR wasn’t particularly great. Corey Crawford has got to be better. Period. A couple of those weren’t his fault and the Steen goal was a breakaway, but the great ones step up. Elliott’s stepping up. Why can’t Crawford? The penalty kill has to be better; they gave up a pair in this one. And Andrew Shaw has to be smarter. The Hawks had a chance to tie the game and he took one of the dumbest penalties you’ll ever see and really put his team behind the 8-ball. I love his ability to get to the dirty areas, but this kind of nonsense can’t happen and it double can’t happen in the playoffs.
My picks for 3 stars:
★★★ Alexander Steen, LW, STL (1 G (GWG), 1 A)
★★ Duncan Keith, D, CHI (2 G)
★ Vladimir Tarasenko, RW, STL (2 G, 1 A)
