Well, that was an adventure. After getting outplayed in the first, the Blackhawks fell behind late in a firewagon second. Keith tied it up in the closing seconds of the period just off the draw following a Blues icing. Tarasenko looked to have his second goal of the night just past midway through the third, but Blackhawks video coach Matt Meachem noticed that the Blues appeared to be offside entering the zone; Q challenged and won. Someone give Meachem a bonus this week. The Hawks took the lead on a greasy goal by Shaw on the power play, that ended up being reviewed twice, and probably didn’t even need to be reviewed once. The Hawks would add an empty-netter, the Blues would score off a draw in the closing seconds, but would not have nearly enough time to seek an equalizer.
The offense still could stand to be better. Panik was fine, but I’d like to see what Weise can bring to the table. Yes, he hasn’t fit in quite as well as everyone had hoped, but he was playing well at the end of the season. Keith returned to the lineup and jumped right into playing cyborg minutes. There were a few defensive lapses; Crawford came up big on all but one. As for that one, I kind of want to see Gustafsson in for Rozsival in game 3, and if Q would prefer someone with more experience, then go with Ehrhoff. That was an incredibly boneheaded play by someone who should really know better and he didn’t do anything particularly positive to redeem himself for that.
My picks for 3 stars:
★★★ Brian Elliott, G, STL (26 SV, 2 GA)
★★ Corey Crawford, G, CHI (29 SV, 2 GA)
★ Andrew Shaw, F, CHI (1 G)
