Wild 2, Blackhawks 1 – Recap

The home finale for the Hawks saw them take on the Minnesota Wild. The Hawks got out to a bit of a slow start, but they would pick up their play and begin to get some nice chances. While the Hawks got some nice looks, they were unable to score in the first. The Wild also did not score in the first twenty, and after one, we were as we began.

The Hawks got out to a better start in the second than they did in the first, but still were unable to get anything past Devan Dubnyk. The Hawks would get the game’s first power play just under twelve minutes in when Ryan Suter was sent off for tripping Jonathan Toews. The Hawks wouldn’t get anything going on the power play, not even getting a shot on goal. The Hawks would go to the penalty kill just under fifteen-and-a-half minutes in after having too many men on the ice. The Hawks would be able to kill off the penalty. Neither team would score the rest of the way in the second, and after two, the teams were still tied at 0.

The first goal in the game would come nine-and-a-half minutes into the third when Mikael Granlund scored for the Wild. The Wild would expand the lead 13:14 into the game on a goal by Jason Zucker. The Hawks finally scored their first goal on Dubnyk this year 18:12 into the third when Bryan Bickell lit the lamp after Crawford was pulled for the extra attacker. The Hawks would be unable to tie the game and would fall to the Wild 2-1.

My picks for 3 stars:

★★★ Chris Stewart, RW, MIN (1 A)

★★ Jason Zucker, LW, MIN (1 G (GWG))

★ Devan Dubnyk, G, MIN (32 SV, 1 GA)
