If this sounds bitter, it’s because I am. Patrick Kane was an all-time great for the franchise, but this really blows and a lot of it is his fault. Everybody knew what this season was going to be nine months ago when the Blackhawks traded Alex DeBrincat, which Kane got bent out of shape about. The front office kept him in the loop the whole way and yet, Kane still couldn’t be bothered to make up his mind, then got bent out of shape again when the Rags got tired of waiting on him to make a decision and picked up Vladimir Tarasenko, at which point it looked like MSG was out as a potential destination. Kane and his agent then decided that if Kane did want a trade, they would go to Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson with one team at a time. The preferred destination was indeed the Rags, who were then able to acquire the former league MVP for peanuts, because Kane torpedoed any leverage the Hawks may have had. The Hawks get a 2nd-round pick in 2023 that could become a 1st in 2024 or 2025 if the Rags make the conference finals, as well as a 4th in 2023. Kane will be a free agent on July 1st. If he wants to come back, we can all make up and he can go on setting franchise records. In the meantime, go Devils.
