Missing: Defense. If Found, Please Return to the United Center – Your Weekly Blackhawks Recap

(Week of 3/22 – 3/28)

Hawks – Hurricanes Recap

Hawks – Flyers Recap

Hawks – Blue Jackets Recap

The Hawks went 1-2 on the week, defeating the Hurricanes on the road, then losing to the Flyers on the road and then to the Blue Jackets at home. The offense still hasn’t adjusted to being without Patrick Kane, and in the two losses last week, the defense was mediocre at best. Corey Crawford didn’t do the Hawks any favors in the two losses either, especially in the one to Columbus, where he was pulled in favor of Scott Darling (who did not give up a goal the rest of the game) in the first period.

Taking a look at the playoff picture, the Wild are on the Hawks’ heels for the third spot in the Central Division, ending the week just one point back. The Hawks do have a game in hand on the Wild, though. Also, the Hawks lead Calgary, who is in third in the wild card race, by seven points. The Flames have seven games left, the Hawks have eight.

The Hawks signed a few players from college recently: Vincent Hinostroza, center from Notre Dame, former teammate of Rockford defenseman Stephen Johns, and the cousin of our Shayne Stuart, Kyle Baun, right wing from Colgate, and Michael Paliotta, defenseman from Vermont. Baun and Paliotta are listed as being on the NHL roster, so they may play a game or two in the NHL this year. Hinostroza is listed as being in the system.

Blackhawks 3 stars of the week:

★★★ Jonathan Toews, C (1 G, 1 A)

★★ Patrick Sharp, LW (1 G (GWG), 1 A)

★ Andrew Shaw, F (3 G)
