Seriously, Duncan, Hurry Back – Your Weekly Blackhawks Recap
- Updated: November 10, 2015
(Week of 11/1 – 11/7)
The Hawks went 1-1-1 on the week, defeating the Kings at home Monday, then losing at home in overtime to the Blues Wednesday, and losing on the road to the Devils Friday.
Notes
Forwards: Marko Dano definitely belongs in the NHL. He was quite good this past week. Kane’s monster year continued, even with Panarin playing on the top line. Turbo had a pretty nice week, but still isn’t where I hoped he’d be just yet. I’d put him at 1LW and leave him there for a while. Some consistency in where he’s playing and who he’s playing with (especially when it’s guys like Toews and Hossa) should help him really get going.
Defensemen: Nobody individually was all that bad, but the group as a whole was just kind of meh. There’s talk that the Hawks could be looking to acquire a defenseman. That seems like a good idea, but I’m leery of who they would have to give up to do so. Duncan Keith returning healthy fixes a lot of things, and then you’re in a situation where either Gustafsson or Svedberg is your sixth defenseman. Both guys have been pretty good; you could certainly do worse than having one of them as your sixth d-man.
Goalies: Crawford was solid against the Kings and then really bad against the Blues and Devils. Darling was fine in relief in New Jersey. Seriously, Q, play Darling more. What does that hurt? He’s more game-ready this way and Crawford’s a little fresher come playoff time. And if Crawford doesn’t have it on a particular night, and it’s not hard to see when he doesn’t have it, get him out of there before he blows the game.
Blackhawks 3 stars of the week:
★★★ Brent Seabrook, D (1 G, 2 A)
★★ Teuvo Teräväinen, F (2 G (1 GWG), 2 A)
★ Patrick Kane, RW (3 G, 2 A)
