Griffey, Jr., Piazza Elected to Baseball Hall of Fame
- Updated: January 7, 2016
Ken Griffey, Jr. and Mike Piazza were elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, getting 99.3 and 83 percent of the vote, respectively. Dan Le Batard already said on Twitter than he was one of the three idiots that didn’t vote for Griffey, I don’t know who the other two were, but (Edit: I forgot Le Batard got his vote taken away two years ago. My bad.) all three deserve to have their votes taken away. I don’t care if you knew Griffey was going to get in and wanted to use your vote on ten other guys, The Kid deserved to be a unanimous inductee. (Also, I’ve seen on Twitter that there is a chance his hat could be backward on his Hall of Fame plaque. That has to happen. (Edit: It’s not going to. *shakes fist at whoever decided it wasn’t going to happen*))
Among those who didn’t get in, Jeff Bagwell, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Trevor Hoffman, Lee Smith, Edgar Martinez, Mark McGwire, and Sammy Sosa should. Put an asterisk on the plaques of the suspected/confirmed steroid users if you want, but you can’t just turn a blind eye to that era, especially when you could have done something about it then had you not decided that cashing on in the excitement of a bunch of guys hitting a bunch of home runs was more important than maintaining the integrity of the game. I don’t even blame baseball for handling it the way they did at the time; the home run race of 1998 helped restore excitement in the game after the strike four years prior. But you can’t just act like it didn’t happen now.
