Hawks – Flames Recap
The Blackhawks went 1-1-1 on the week, losing in a shootout at home to Minnesota and in a blowout to Dallas, then defeating the Flames in Calgary.
Notes
Forwards: Shaw, Panik, Ladd, and Fleischmann all had nice weeks. The Shake An Bake line remains kind of quiet. Weise hasn’t quite fit yet and was a healthy scratch in Calgary. Also in Calgary, Marcus Kruger made his return, which certainly helped the penalty kill.
Defensemen: Major letdown against Dallas. Otherwise mostly fine.
Goalies: Darling wasn’t great against Dallas, but otherwise had a nice week. Leighton was okay in mop-up duty against the Stars. Corey Crawford remains out with an upper-body injury, rumored to be a head injury. At this point, it’s not a certainty he’ll be back for the playoffs. If he’s not, I’m sure Darling can get the job done provided that the defense doesn’t let him down. Then again, if the defense lets Crawford down, the team’s not going very far, either. Crawford’s certainly had his playoff moments, but it’s unrealistic to expect anyone to be a brick wall for the entirety of the playoffs.
Blackhawks 3 stars of the week:
★★★ Teuvo Teräväinen, F (1 G, 1 A)
★★ Richard Panik, W (2 G)
★ Andrew Shaw, F (2 G)
